Few companies measure the impacts of employee volunteering, and where evaluations are undertaken, few are about Australian companies. It seems employee volunteering is viewed as inherently 'good', with assessment of the expenditure and time invested not warranted. Breaking this mould Shell Australia wished to establish empirical evidence of the impact of corporate volunteering program for staff. Results show positive impacts of volunteering in general (ie community volunteering), and also demonstrates impacts on staff attitudes attributable to having volunteered through the workplace.
